On Monday 28 April, Councillors Perfect, Tejan and Wildey received armed forces awareness training from Canon Peter Bruinvels CC.
Kent and Medway share a large armed forces community, maintained of 61,071 veterans, 1,500 serving, 900 service children, 720 reservists and 6,240 Cadets. The Armed Forces Covenant has been enshrined in law and there is now a legal requirement for local authorities to ensure ‘due regard’ for Armed Forces Community in the provision of certain key services.
Councillor Perfect, Leader of the Opposition, said:
The Armed Forces have a special place here in Medway, and we are proud that Medway Council holds Armed Forces Covenant Gold, which will be up for renewal this year.
We will always support our veterans and former armed forces personnel and this training formed a good opportunity for us to refresh our knowledge on this important issue.
