Along with the Mayor of Medway Cllr Trevor Clarke, Cllrs Robbie Lammas and Alex Hyne attended the opening of a new allotment at Kingfisher Primary School.
Princes Park councillors funded the project to renovate the school's existing allotment which was well overdue for a replacement. Along with support from builders' merchant Travis Perkins, Community Property, and Food for Life, the new allotment has brought renewed interest from pupils in how to grow their own vegetables as well as learning about nutrition, healthy lifestyles and the importance of having a balanced diet.
Cllr Hyne, a former pupil of the school, said:
It was a great opportunity to give back to the school that taught him so much and where many happy memories were made.
Pupils have already successfully grown a variety of vegetables; including potatoes, onions, courgettes, garlic, carrots, runner beans, and even their own herb garden!
