At the Annual General Meeting of Medway Conservatives this evening (Monday 12th May 2025), the Medway Conservative Group re-elected Cllr George Perfect as its Leader and Cllr Gary Hackwell as its Deputy Leader, by unanimous agreement.

Speaking at the close of the meeting, Cllr Perfect, Leader of Medway Conservatives and Opposition Leader of Medway Council said:

I'm delighted to have been re-elected this evening by my brilliant team as Leader, with unanimous support and agreement of the Group. I'm pleased too that my Deputy Leader, Cllr Hackwell, has also been re-elected unanimously, and thank him for his tremendous friendship and support during what have been a difficult twelve months for him.

It's been a busy and challenging year for our Party following the most difficult General and Local Election results in our history, but I believe that by working with our national party and constituency associations we have a tremendous opportunity to renew and rebuild our party - the most successful in the western world and Medway's history.

That work continues tomorrow, when I will meet with our Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to discuss Medway, local government reorganisation and more.

Cllr Perfect has this evening re-appointed his Shadow Cabinet, and a confirmation of shadow portfolios can be found here.
