Cllr Wildey

The Medway Conservative Group welcome the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report of Medway Council's adult social care service, and its independent findings, which was released today.

Whilst acknowledging that improvements are necessary, the Group are pleased to see that the CQC found many areas of Medway's care sector were good. Medway has hardworking and committed staff who are proud of the work they do for our community and the Medway Conservative Group fully support them.

While it was disappointing that Medway missed out on a “Good” rating from the CQC, just missing out on this will hopefully motivate the administration to improve.

The Conservative Group will hold the administration to account over the next year to ensure that Medway achieves a “Good” rating in the next report to make sure that residents have a service which is fit for purpose. However, the report does demonstrate some key issues within the care sector such as the safeguarding service and the shortage of care home places, which the administration must robustly focus on improving.

Commenting, Shadow Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, Councillor David Wildey said:

“It was positive to see that there are some areas where the CQC have said that Medway are performing well.

I would like to congratulate all the staff involved and I look forward to holding the administration to account, particularly through the Health and Adult Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee so the Council can achieve better outcomes in its journey at the next report.

The administration is right that it must focus on the safeguarding service and the shortage of care home places as areas of key focus in the immediate period ahead.”
