The Leader of the Opposition, Cllr George Perfect and the Medway Conservatives wish to pay tribute following the funeral of Councillor Filmer, this afternoon, honouring his service and contribution to the local community.
Cllr Perfect speaking today:
“Today, we came together to say our final farewell to Councillor Filmer — a colleague, a public servant a dedicated friend.
The passing of Councillor Filmer marked a great loss to the whole of Medway, to whom, over the years, benefitted from his commitment to serving his community.
Public service is not easy, and it often demands long and demanding hours, difficult decisions, and personal sacrifice. Councillor Filmer gave that service with a genuine sense of duty.
Whether you liked what he had to say or didn’t, there was no doubting his commitment to representing his residents and contributing to the life of this council and making Medway a decent place to live.
On behalf of the Opposition, I want to express our deepest condolences to Councillor Filmer’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.”
Councillor Filmer’s commitment to public service was evident throughout his 35 years of service in public office, pre-dating Medway Council.
At this time, thoughts remain with Councillor Filmer’s loved ones. His contribution to public life will be remembered, and he will be greatly missed, not only as a colleague but as a friend.
May Councillor Filmer rest in peace.
