Cllr George Perfect, Leader of Medway Conservatives said:
I am very disappointed that Andrew Lawrence has decided to launch a new political party. Cllr Lawrence was a longstanding member of the Conservative Party and a member of my frontbench team. Cllr Lawrence was also elected in 2023 thanks to the Conservative Party and its backing.
As I have said before, he was deselected by the Gillingham and Rainham Conservative Association earlier this year. Despite this, he was given the opportunity to stand as a Conservative candidate elsewhere in Medway through a separate selection process. He chose not to take that opportunity.
At a time when residents expect their elected representatives to focus on the challenges facing Medway, creating a new political party appears to be a distraction rather than a solution. Our focus remains firmly on delivering for local people and ensuring the administration is properly held to account.
