Speaking following the announcement today (Wednesday 10th September), Leader of the Opposition Cllr George Perfect said:
“I’m delighted to hear of the planned collaboration between the University of Kent and the University of Greenwich, announced earlier today. Both universities are at the heart of our community, and by coming together, I believe the plans will lead to the financial sustainability of both institutions and safeguard their futures.
I pay tribute in particular to the ongoing work of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich and Vice-Chancellor-Designate of the new institution Professor Jane Harrington and Interim Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Kent Professor Georgina Randsley de Moura, for their work, along with that of their teams in driving forward this new partnership. Financial sustainability and particularly ensuring students are at the heart of everything they do is vitally important and I’m pleased this is at the core of the plans for the new London and South East University Group.
My Shadow Cabinet Member Cllr Joy and I look forward to continuing to engage on these proposals over the forthcoming twelve months ahead of their planned implementation in September 2026.”
