Statement from the Opposition Chief Whip: Upholding Standards in Public Life

The Opposition Chief Whip, Cllr Barry Kemp, made the following statement today, Tuesday 13th August 2024:

Following recent incidents involving Councillor Shokar and Councillor Edwards, the Conservative Group are concerned that these matters are not being taken seriously enough by the Labour and Co-Operative Group and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Maple. Accordingly, I have today made formal complaints to the Monitoring Officer about both Councillors. The Leader of the Opposition has also written to the Leader again, with further questions relating to Cllr Maple's leadership on this matter.

The Conservative Group will always stand up for the Nolan Principles of Public Life, protecting the Council's reputation and upholding the Council’s code of conduct.
