Councillor Barry Kemp has been a committed representative of Rainham South West since May 2023, following his long-standing service in Rainham Central from 2007 to 2023.
Barry has held several leadership roles within Medway Council, including serving as the Conservative Group Chief Whip. His extensive committee experience includes positions on the Audit Committee, Business Support and Digital Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and the Councillor Conduct Committee.
In addition to his council duties, Barry has made significant contributions to Medway’s civic life. He served as Mayor of Medway from 2014 to 2015 and again from 2015 to 2016, following his tenure as Deputy Mayor from 2009 to 2010. His mayoral leadership was marked by his dedication to community engagement and local development.
Beyond politics, Barry has been actively involved in governance initiatives, including his work with the Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority. His commitment to public service has made him a key figure in shaping Medway’s policies and supporting local residents.
With decades of experience in local government, Councillor Kemp continues to work towards improving Medway’s governance, advocating for residents, and fostering strong community leadership.
