The news of the imminent closure of the NatWest Branch in Rainham is a further blow to the people and businesses of Rainham.

Although there are alternative options for regular users of this Branch (including Rainham Post Office further up the High Street or the branch in Chatham), people regularly using this branch will be impacted.

On top of this, the team at the branch who are an integral part of the Rainham community which when they go will be a great loss.

This latest closure follows the closure of branches in Hoo (2014), Rochester (2017), Gillingham (2022), Strood (earlier this month), which will leave only one NatWest branch open in Medway.

Councillor Joy, Member for Rainham South West, spoke with the Central Kent Director of NatWest where he was informed that decisions to close branches are not taken lightly. Councillor Joy made clear the importance of the branch to the community and that customers impacted are supported.

NatWest confirmed to Councillor Joy that they will be providing support to all customers, especially their most vulnerable customers to ensure they are assisted with the options open to them.  Reaching out pro-actively to customers, running several events at the branch (first of which was on Wednesday 27th March) and running Awareness Workshop around Scams.

Councillor Joy encourages all customers that use the Rainham branch of NatWest that have concerns, to ensure these are shared with NatWest plc, and will continue to support residents at this time
