Meet George: our Leader and Councillor for Rainham North
Councillor George Perfect is a lifelong resident of Medway, born in Medway Hospital and raised in Gillingham and Rainham. His family has called Medway home for generations. George pursued his passion for politics at the University of Westminster, graduating with a first-class degree while gaining hands-on experience in business development within the insurance sector.
George’s journey into politics began early—at just 13 years old, he joined the Medway Youth Council, later rising to become its chairman. During his tenure, he actively contributed to the Medway Council Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee, working alongside local councillors to hold the administration accountable. As Youth Council Chair, George collaborated with youth councils nationwide and frequently appeared in the national press to advocate for youth involvement in politics. He was also instrumental in founding the Medway Youth Awards, an annual event that celebrates the achievements of more than 200 young people each year.
A firm believer in education and community service, George became a Community Governor of Fort Pitt Grammar School in 2018 and was appointed vice chairman the following year. In March 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, he made history by becoming the youngest-ever Chair of Governors in the English school system at Balfour Junior School. His leadership in navigating the school through the crisis and recovery was commended in a National Governors Association peer review as exemplary. Following his election as councillor, George stepped down from his role as Chair of Governors but remains a dedicated member of the Inspire Partnership Academy Trust and Beyond Schools Trust, continuing his mission to support high-quality education for thousands of young people across Medway.
George was first elected in May 2023 to represent Rainham North, winning a marginal seat despite national political headwinds. His leadership quickly gained recognition—he was appointed opposition spokesperson for children and young people and later supported the Group Leader in communications and external affairs. In March 2023, he was elected Deputy Group Leader, and in May 2024, he became the unanimously elected Leader of Medway Conservatives, securing re-election in May 2025. In addition to his local responsibilities, George was appointed as a Substitute Member of the Local Government Association’s Children and Young People Board in September 2024, before earning a full membership in May 2025.
Alongside his council duties, George is a public affairs account director, bringing his expertise and commitment to both public service and professional leadership.
